Desert Rooms with Painted Walls and Quiet Nights
The rooms at Amargosa Opera House Hotel don’t follow trends—they preserve them. Each one is uniquely designed, with hand-painted murals or simple, period-inspired furnishings that reflect the theatrical soul of the adjacent opera house. Some walls bear Marta Becket’s original artwork—cherubs, feathers, stars—while others channel the quiet poetry of the desert.
What’s absent is just as intentional. There are no televisions, no telephones, and no distractions beyond the occasional whisper of wind through the windows. Instead, guests find peace in minimalist surroundings with vintage touches, practical essentials like air conditioning, toiletries, and Wi-Fi in common areas. Some rooms offer access to a shared kitchenette, ideal for a basic meal before a day trip into Death Valley.

The hotel didnt tell us that the road (Hiway 190) leading to it was closed. Therefore we couldnt get to the hotel. Despite this, they would not issue us a refund, which is poor customer service.

Its unique location

--To be honest just the fact that I am staying in a heritage building and supporting the building from collapsing.

I love this hotel - it's eccentric, but with a history and character which has been preserved. It's like stepping back in time.

Great location and wonderful staff! Beautiful historic building.

Really typical for the location, gets you in the mood for visiting the death valley and surroundings

Historical hotel, free parking, kind personnel

Ive stayed here a few times so I knew what to expect. It appears that some work is being done on both the outside and inside of the hotel to make it look a bit better. This is a one of a kind hotel with a great story and it deserves to live on.

The place is really peculiar, amazing architecture, well located to visit the Death Valley.

Breakfast not included however there is a dining room so you can take your own ( and coffee is provided)

We like remote places and were looking for a base to start our Death Valley adventure with a twist - traveling from Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam. This quaint hotel proved to be a very good choice. It was interesting to learn the history of Marta Becket and her opera. Expect no frills and bring your own food. Enjoy the history. Play the piano in the dining room. The front desk staff had a strong customer focus and were extremely helpful. We will remember Armagosa Hotel very fondly.

History of place Stars at night!! Quietness of location Great price Staff bring available after hours on phone Air conditioner worked great- comfortable

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Amargosa. Guests should know upfront, however, that this is a 100-year old historic facility and it looks it, inside and out. It's also in the middle of nowhere, about 1.5 hrs from Death Valley National Park. It will definitely be a "rustic" experience, but the wonderfully friendly staff will make it all worth it. Keep in mind that you're stepping back in time 100-years, manage your expectations and embrace the experience!

Shabby, run-down, outdated, but absolutely fantastic. A real blast from the past! Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast OK Comfortable beds

Great location for Death Valley, friendly staff, good air conditioning, ample parking. Room was dated and tired but you could tell it had been cleaned well. Has real character, although rather creepy. Would recommend for an interesting stay on a budget in the area.

A unique, very off-the-beaten-path experience. The complex of buildings looks much like it did in 1925 when constructed by Pacific Coast Borax Company, back when the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad served the town and the mines in the region. It's now a very laid-back, funky, friendly place.

The history.

Great historic place in the dessert. The room was clean, and everything matched my expectation.

Location was good, parking was in a designated area in full sun so not directly outside your room. Bed was a little firm but fresh clean sheets. Shower was OK but you have to wait 10-15 mins for the hot water to come through. Apparently only 1 boiler for entire hotel. Fresh drip coffee made in the lounge area at 8am each morning.. There is a fridge and microwave near the coffee for everyone to use. Cafe/restaurant not open.

History of the Place Location Everything is Very very clean Dining room available with microwave, ice machine and fridge

I loved the tour of the opera house and all the history of the building and the city. It was so beautiful and the night sky is amazing!!

Location was fantastic, on the edge of Death Valley...however when we arrived I honestly thought the place was closed as it looked so deserted and run down. The history and heritage of the place makes it a super interesting place to visit but it was let down by the fact it was so tired and in need of renovation/restoration.

Location is great, just outside Death Valley, and the historic building looks straight out of a Western. I wish I'd known about the 9am tour of the opera house.

The history behind it.

The desert location was amazing. The background of how this place came to be was very interesting. The display units in the office area was very good to examine. Tabitha was so helpful and went the extra mile to help us with our questions. Allthough the rooms are small and quaint this only adds to the romantic aspect of the location. Our friends who travelled with us were amazed and loved th4 place and its location
